Dueling Gadsden humor

Posted by Richard on March 22, 2014

The folks at Organizing for America (OFA; formerly Obama for America), in an uncharacteristic moment of light-hearted humor, decided to have some fun with the iconic Gadsden flag frequently seen at Tea Party rallies:

Gadsden flag - OFA version

I’ve got to hand it to them, that’s pretty clever.

But the folks at the satirical “communist” site The People’s Cube thought it lacked something: honesty. Here’s their more truthful version:

Gadsden flag - People's Cube version

There, that fixed it. 🙂

For a good laugh, drop by The People’s Cube from time to time, if only for a quick check of “News we just don’t have time to write about,” which features gems like these:

The President’s latest talking point on Obamacare: “I didn’t build that”

Efforts to achieve moisture justice for California thwarted by unfair redistribution of snow in America

Putin annexes Brighton Beach to protect ethnic Russians in Brooklyn, Obama appeals to UN and EU for help

Sen. Cruz has a sense of humor

Did you see the poster of a “bad boy” version of Sen. Ted Cruz? The Senator did, and responded with humor:

Defending ‘truthiness’ in political speech

Posted by Richard on March 5, 2014

Susan B. Anthony List v. Driehaus is going before the Supreme Court. It’s a free speech case in which the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List challenges an Ohio campaign law criminalizing false statements about politicians. During the 2010 campaign, SBA List claimed that Rep. Steven Driehaus’ vote for Obamacare amounted to a vote for taxpayer-funded abortions. This was an illegal false statement according to Driehaus.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Some folks associated with the Cato Institute, including P.J. O’Rourke, have filed an amici curiae brief in the case (PDF). It provides by far the most entertaining reading the Supremes will encounter all year. Here’s a sample:

In modern times, “truthiness” — a “truth” asserted “from the gut” or because “it feels right,” without regard to evidence or logic — is also a key part of political discourse. It is difficult to imagine life without it, and our political discourse is weakened by Orwellian laws that try to prohibit it.

After all, where would we be without the knowledge that Democrats are pinko-communist flag-burners who want to tax churches and use the money to fund abortions so they can use the fetal stem cells to create pot-smoking lesbian ATF agents who will steal all the guns and invite the UN to take over America? Voters have to decide whether we’d be better off electing Republicans, those hateful, assault-weapon-wielding maniacs who believe that George Washington and Jesus Christ incorporated the nation after a Gettysburg reenactment and that the only thing wrong with the death penalty is that it isn’t administered quickly enough to secular-humanist professors of Chicano studies.

Working 1 to 5

Posted by Richard on February 24, 2014

Obamacare is relentlessly turning full-time workers into part-time workers (or labor force dropouts dependent on government handouts) and pushing part-time workers below the magical 30-hour/week threshold. Even state and local governments are getting into the act. So an “Obamacare remix” of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” is a no-brainer. Remy Munasifi and the folks at Reason.TV were up to the task:

Alinskying Obama

Posted by Richard on February 4, 2013

By now, you’ve probably seen the picture released by the White House of the President allegedly skeet shooting. Did you know that the White House has strict rules limiting how such official photos can be used and prohibits altering them in any way? Of course, this edict has failed to deter countless wielders of PhotoShop. Resistor in the Rockies, citing Rule #5 from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals (“Ridicule is Man’s Most Potent Weapon”), has collected a ton of them. Prepare to ROTFL.

Carl Bussjaeger has some, too, along with a good analysis of the original White House photo. His conclusion, which I find persuasive, is that it’s a fake. Obama may have posed with the shotgun on his shoulder, but the smoke plumes were PhotoShopped in afterwards to make it look like he was firing. Steve Sheldon, a “lifelong shotgunner,” came to the same conclusion. The administration is just trying to persuade the bitter clingers and other rubes that Obama isn’t really anti-gun, despite a political lifetime of statements and actions to the contrary.

The key sign that Romney’s winning

Posted by Richard on October 31, 2012

Forget the polls. Yeah, they show that things are trending Romney’s way in state after state. But here’s the real key sign that things are going Romney’s way: David Letterman’s Top Ten List.

Letterman has been carrying on like a trouper during Sandy, doing his show last night and tonight with no studio audience. Tonight, he did a Top Ten List of unnecessary 911 calls received during the storm.

The number one unnecessary 911 call: “I’m losing to a guy named Mitt.”

[rimshot]

You know the Obama campaign is in trouble when a confirmed lefty like Letterman is making jokes about how he’s losing.

Pretty funny picture. Most of the caption suggestions are pretty lame, but I like this one:

Is this one of those “Cadillac” health plans we keep hearing about?

The Twitter questions Obama should have answered

Posted by Richard on July 8, 2011

Iowahawk submitted a bunch of questions to the President's Twitter Town Hall, but none were selected. Too bad, because they're much more entertaining than the ones chosen. And certainly more entertaining than the President's answers. Here are a few of my favorites:

An $8 billion high speed train leaves Chicago for Iowa City at 8:15am at 40mph. Why?

I let my Mexican drug lord license expire. Am I still eligible for the free machine gun program?

Why do you need permission to be clear, and not need permission to bomb Libya?

I just voted to increase my sobriety ceiling. Why won't the bartender give me another drink?

I really need to start living within my means. Do you recommend I start holding up banks or convenience stores?

Are strawmen cheaper when you buy them by the gross?

if punishing employers results in more employment, can you also punish beer makers?

Plenty more where those came from. Read the whole thing.

A modest border proposal

This definitely deserves a "Heh." And it would render all that pro- and anti-birther folderol moot to boot. 🙂
