Anti-Sharia rallies across the nation on June 10

Posted by Richard on June 5, 2017

Brigitte Gabriel’s ACT for America is sponsoring “March Against Sharia” rallies in cities across the country this Saturday, June 10, to voice opposition to female genital mutilation (FGM), honor killings/violence, and other anti-woman and anti-human-rights practices of fundamentalist Islamic law that are taking place right here in the United States.

The first US arrests for FGM took place in Detroit just a few weeks ago, but fundamentalist American and immigrant Muslims have been engaging in the barbaric practice under the radar for many years. In a column posted today at Breitbart, Gabriel describes a horrific honor killing and discusses the much more prevalent problem of honor violence of other types:

“Do you know you are going to die tonight?”

This is how Zein Isa, a Palestinian Muslim and naturalized United States Citizen, told his 16-year-old daughter Tina, that she was going to die.

He told her she brought dishonor to the family by finding part time work, dating a boy outside of her faith, playing high school soccer, going to the prom, and becoming “Americanized.”

Tina was brutally stabbed to death by her father with a butcher knife, while her mother Maria, held her down.

The horrific events and Tina’s screams for mercy were recorded on an FBI tape:

Several studies have concluded that while the reported number of honor killings in the United States is relatively low—rough estimates of 23 to 27 killings annually—the number of honor violence victims increases exponentially when other nonlethal forms of honor violence are added to the equation.

Information about honor violence is closely concealed by families and communities. Victims or potential victims may not report victimization out of fear. Further, victims may not report honor violence because in their home culture what has occurred is not viewed as a crime.

Read more about the rallies, other barbaric aspects of sharia, and the victims of sharia who are participating in these rallies at WorldNetDaily. But keep in mind it’s WorldNetDaily, so don’t venture into the comments unless you have a strong stomach; lots of crazies (on both sides) comment there.

If you support equal rights for all and especially if you’re a real feminist (not a fake feminist like Linda Sarsour), and there’s a rally near you, come out and make your voice heard.

Millions rally against terror in Paris; Obama admin skipped it

Posted by Richard on January 11, 2015

Today was an incredible day in Paris:

The French Interior Ministry said the rally for unity against terrorism is the largest demonstration in France’s history.

Calling the rally “unprecedented,” the ministry said the demonstrators are so numerous they spread beyond the official march route, making them impossible to count.

French media estimate up to 3.7 million are taking part, more than the numbers who took to Paris streets when the Allies liberated the city from the Nazis in World War II.

More than 40 world leaders joined French President Francois Hollande in the march, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Jordan’s King Abdullah.

So what about President Obama? Meh, too far to travel for something other than a vacation or a round of golf. No Biden either, which is probably just as well; too much risk of embarrassing the US. A prominent member of the cabinet, perhaps? Well, that could easily have happened, but …

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is in Paris this week to attend a meeting on fighting terrorism, but did not participate in the march.

Apparently, the only representative of the United States government was Ambassador to France Jane Hartley. She probably didn’t have far to go; the US embassy is near Place de la Concorde, which I’m guessing was on the march route.

Hartley is the perfect person to represent the Obama administration at such an event. Like most of Obama’s ambassadorial appointments, she has zero foreign policy experience, but was a major “bundler” of campaign contributions in both 2008 and 2012. Besides, having a higher-ranking administration official represent the US might give people the mistaken impression that this administration considers opposition to terrorism important. Or, Allah forbid, that it sees jihad as a threat.

Send a message: Spend Less Now

Posted by Richard on March 8, 2011

AFP-Colorado is holding a rally at the State Capitol Wednesday to send a simple message to the Governor and Legislature:

Are you tired of watching those who rally the government for more and more on the evening news every night while you are at the kitchen table figuring out how your family is making ends meet?
It’s time that you stand up and let your voice be heard!
Some legislators in the Colorado Senate just proposed a $1.6 billion tax increase without offering any ideas to reduce government spending.
Colorado faces a budget shortfall of more than $1 billion. It is time we tell our Colorado leaders to Spend Less Now!!
Join us as we make our voices heard at the State Capitol.

Wednesday, March 9th
Colorado State Capitol – West Steps
Noon

If you're in the Denver area and can swing by there on your lunch hour, please add your voice. If, like me, you can't make it to the rally, go to www.spendlessnow.org to sign the Spend Less Now petition.

Stand up against union thuggery in Denver on Tuesday

Posted by Richard on February 21, 2011

From Jeff Crank, Director of AFP-Colorado (via email):

We’ve all seen the outrageous attempts to intimidate Governor Scott Walker and members of the Wisconsin legislature by the SEIU, Organizing for America and other left-wing groups which are trying to disrupt the government of Wisconsin from doing its business.

Now the union bosses have decided to export their unrest to other states – including right here in Colorado.  As the SEIU is standing firm with the turmoil taking place in Wisconsin, they have planned nationwide "Union Solidarity Action Rallies" – including one in Denver tomorrow, Tuesday, February 22, 2011.

Freedom groups from all over Colorado are going to stand firm with Governor Scott Walker, free enterprise and balancing our budget for the sake of our children and grandchildren.  I hope you will join me and other freedom fighters on the west sidewalk surrounding the Colorado State Capitol tomorrow at noon to show our support for fiscal sanity.

Please be aware, the SEIU will have a permit for the actual grounds and we will be respectful of this. If you are on the grounds, do not be disruptive or they can have you removed. We will be meeting on the sidewalk on the west side of the Capitol – where we will express our First Amendment rights and cannot be asked to leave.

Bring your signs, your flags, your friends, and your right to free expression.  Let’s show Colorado that we won’t stand for a future burdened by debt and out-of-control spending.

I'm taking the day off on Tuesday, and I'll be there. If you're in the neighborhood and able to do so (maybe just a long lunch?), please join me.

A turning point in Wisconsin?

Posted by Richard on February 19, 2011

To indulge in some metaphor-mixing, this nation is fiscally at the precipice and politically at a tipping point. Madison, Wisconsin is, as Herman Cain said, Ground Zero. Someday, we may look back on February 19 as the day that we began to tip away from the precipice.

With only 48 hours' notice, thousands of Wisconsin's hard-working private citizens gathered at the capitol to support Gov. Scott Walker and respond to the angry demands of Wisconsin's public employees (and their supporters bused in by unions, the DNC, and Obama's Organizing for America). They told them, "You work for us. And we can no longer afford the lavish salaries and benefits that you've pressured previous administrations into giving you. It's time to get real."

Watch the video of Herman Cain below. The crowd noise and limitations of the on-camera microphone make it difficult to hear everything that he said, but you can get the gist of it. I hope there's a better recording or that someone with the technical expertise can clean it up. Because I'm thinking that with clearer audio, this could become this year's equivalent of the 2009 Rick Santelli rant that gave birth to the Tea Parties.

Great day, great Tea Party in Denver

Posted by Richard on April 16, 2010

It was a beautiful spring day in Denver, sunny and mild — a perfect day to spend 3 hours amidst thousands of small-government, pro-liberty people having a great time at the State Capitol. Best use of a vacation day I've made in some time.

I only caught bits and pieces of most of the speakers because I did a lot of wandering around, looking at the crowd, the signs, and the handful of counter-demonstrators across the street. Bumped into several old friends. I did listen to Jimmy Lakey's speech, and wow, he is as his website bio says, "a gifted communicator."

I didn't see any outrageous signs or other indications that there were "Crash the Tea Party" infiltrators in the crowd. Didn't even see the dead fetus signs that the anti-abortion folks usually bring to every rally, no matter what the cause or sponsor.

One of the counter-demonstrators had a sign that read "Lynch Palin" — thus proving that Tea Parties do attract misogynists who advocate violence against women.

Most of the local media are citing a crowd estimate of 2,000. Last year's event was estimated at 3,000, and I'd say this crowd was comparable, if not larger. But at least no one I'm aware of is calling it "dozens."

One TV station followed the "downplay the Tea Party" script. 9News has a video on their website from their noon newscast in which the reporter on the scene, Brooke Thacker, was asked for an estimate. She said hundreds, even while the brief crowd shots in the accompanying video made a liar out of her. The AP story posted adjacent to the video says 2,000.

It got worse. 9News didn't air any of the speakers or interview any of the organizers — just a clip of some realtor saying that the housing market was really bad. Thacker gave a cursory, shallow description of why people were there. But after the remote from the rally, anchor Kyle Dyer explained that they wanted to present "the other side," so she did a phone interview with the Democratic Party chair, who was allowed to rattle off all the Democratic talking points at some length. Epic journalistic fail, 9News.

The People's Press Collective streamed the whole thing live, and at one point they announced that over 6,000 people were receiving the stream — I think they should all count as virtual attendees. 🙂 PPC has some video and pictures posted already, and I understand video of all the speakers will be available this evening. Check out that Jimmy Lakey speech.

Attend your local Tax Day Tea Party

Posted by Richard on April 14, 2010

I hope you'll take some time away from work and/or last-minute number crunching tomorrow to attend a Tax Day Tea Party in your area. Tea Party Patriots lists over 750 such scheduled events, and you can find one near you by city, state, or ZIP code.

I'm taking the day off to attend the Denver Tea Party. Like all good Denver rallies, it's at the State Capitol, and it's scheduled for 10 AM to 1 PM. If you're going, too, look for me and say hi — I'll be the, um, "mature" fellow with a beard wearing an "Infidel" t-shirt.

If you've never been to a Tea Party rally, you'll be amazed at how friendly, good-natured, and diverse the crowd is. But keep your eye out for leftist "Crash the Tea Party" infiltrators pretending to be Nazis, bigots, and yahoos in an effort to discredit the movement. You might want to bring a pocket videocam to capture the fun — and the truth.

Remember what the left taught us: "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." So get out there and be patriotic! 🙂

UPDATE: Ann Althouse has some good advice on dealing with leftist tea-party crashers. Some good comments, too, like this by Fred4Pres:

I have been to a few tea party events and they are about as edgy as a Rotary or Lions Club meeting. If someone is making a complete jackass of themselves, I am going to conclude that person is a Kos Kid.

Tea Party Express III comes to Colorado

Posted by Richard on March 30, 2010

The Tea Party Express has two stops in Colorado on Wednesday (via email):

GRAND JUNCTION: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 – 10:00 AM

1301 East Sherwood Drive
Grand Junction, CO

DENVER: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 – 4:00 PM

West steps of the State Capitol
200 E Colfax Ave
Denver, CO 80203

Tea Party Express III: Just Vote Them Out national tour kicked off this weekend in Searchlight, NV where one of the largest political gatherings in Nevada history took place. The Tea Party Express will hold 44 tea party rallies across the nation, ending in Washington, D.C. for the Tax Day Tea Party on April 15th.

Of course, the Denver turnout won't hold a candle to the Searchlight, Nevada, mega-rally. But I hope the Denver Post at least provides fairer coverage than CNN gave the Searchlight event.

Searchlight's population is about 600, and it's in the middle of the desert 60 miles south of Las Vegas. Crowd estimates for the "retire Harry Reid" rally ranged from 9-11,000 to more than 20,000. Countless others weren't able to get there; even after the rally had ended, traffic headed into Searchlight was still backed up 15 in both directions. So how did CNN's Fredricka Whitfield report the event? According to NewsBusters (emphasis in original):

"Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin there in Searchlight, Nev., was the backyard of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, but today it's the backdrop of this Tea Party Express – making a stop here," Whitfield said. "Hundreds of people, at least dozens of people – we haven't gotten a count of how many people turned out there. We heard Sarah Palin talk about everything about the campaign, to unseat Sen. Reid to what she calls ObamaCare, on the heels of that health care vote and even talking about her definition of her love of America."

Pictures and links at Gateway Pundit. Yep, that's at least dozens.

Tea Party Express II

Posted by Richard on October 1, 2009

They haven't quit in Washington. They're still working hard to come up with a government-controlled health care plan, to enact a crippling cap-and-tax energy bill, to regulate and control ever more of our economic activities, and to make more and more Americans beholden to the government and controlled by the government.

Well, we in "flyover country" haven't quit either. The tea party movement is alive, well, and growing. Just look at the recent polling data showing support for health care reform continues to drop, Americans are increasingly skeptical about what Congress is doing, and nearly two-thirds are angry about the current policies of the federal government

Our Country Deserves Better has announced the next vehicle for Americans to express their disapproval of the current administration's ongoing efforts to turn the U.S. into a socialist banana republic. Tea Party Express II is another cross-country bus tour with rallies scheduled in nearly three dozen locations (including Denver!):

All throughout the recent Tea Party Express national tour we kept receiving emails and phone calls from people around the nation who lived far away from the route our buses took across America.  We vowed at the time to keep the Tea Party Express effort alive – and that’s exactly what we are doing.

It is our pleasure to announce the “Tea Party Express: Countdown to Judgment Day” which will cross the nation from coast-to-coast, border-to-border October 25th – November 11th — 1 year ahead of the November 2010 congressional elections… or as our Czarina of the tea party movement, Amy Kremer, likes to refer to as “Judgment Day.”  The Tea Party Express will kick-off the tour with a rally in San Diego, California on October 25th and wind up the tour with a rally in Orlando, Florida on November 11th (Veteran’s Day).  We’ve just posted the new tour map and itinerary (with the dates of rallies in each city) at our website: www.TeaPartyExpress.org

This won’t just be a continuation of the tour we just completed.  We will be having a lot of special surprises and additions as we grow this effort — and continue the fight against government-run healthcare, Cap & Trade, bailouts, out-of-control deficit spending and the growth in the size and intrusiveness of government.

Check out the route map and rally schedule here. And if there's a stop near you, get your ass out there!

The 9/12 March on Washington attendance deception

Posted by Richard on September 18, 2009

I never got around to posting about the 9/12 rally in Washington (and Denver, among countless other places), figuring it was pretty well covered by many others, on the internet and in other outlets. But in the past few days, it's become clear to me that the fraudulent attendance numbers reported by the mainstream media outlets have been accepted even by people who should know better, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

The New York Times originally called it "several thousand," and later changed it to "tens of thousands." Most of the media, national and local, either repeated "tens of thousands" or quoted an estimate of 60-70 thousand, supposedly attributed to the D.C. fire department (although that agency doesn't have the expertise or authority to make such estimates). That number has been cited even by conservatives like Bill O'Reilly (let's face it, folks, he's really not that bright), and people in my circle who should know better have just accepted it as authoritative.

Bunkum. Nonsense. Pure hokum. That estimate understates the actual number by at least an order of magnitude.

You want evidence? OK. But first, consider these points: According to attendees, people were still arriving at 4PM, when the permit expired and the event ended. The traffic situation was impossible, forcing countless people to walk many miles to reach the rally. It was made worse by the fact that (according to some Washingtonians) the city cut the usual number of Saturday Metro train cars in half, making access to the rally that much more difficult (that couldn't have been deliberate and malicious, could it?).

So, with that in mind, take a look at the panoramic picture from the Capitol at I Own The World. Double-click the little image there to see the full-sized one. But be forewarned — it's over a megabyte and measures 2379 × 608 pixels. If you've got a slow connection, it will take a while. And even if you've got a wide-screen monitor, you'll have to scroll side to side to see it all.

For those of you who, like me, have been in a 100,000-person football stadium, try to estimate how many such stadiums this crowd would fill. Keep in mind that the crowd extends beyond the edges of the image and people are still streaming in.

Want another perspective? Take a look at the first picture on this Michelle Malkin post, showing the marchers filling Pennsylvania Avenue on their way to the Capitol. And consider this USA Today graphic of the area between the Capitol and the Washington Monument (be sure to mouse over the marked spots).

It's pretty clear to me that the size of the crowd at the time of that panoramic image was at or above the 800,000 that attended Bill Clinton's 1993 inaugural. And it just kept growing all day long.

Tens of thousands, my ass!

9/12 rally time

Posted by Richard on September 12, 2009

If you're in the Denver area, I hope you'll join me in attending the rally Saturday at the State Capitol from 10 AM to 2 PM (I'll be the bearded guy wearing the "INFIDEL" t-shirt). Here's a description from Colorado Tea Party Patriots:

Please join a coalition of 9-12 and Tea Party groups from across the state for a "March on Denver". This event is in support of the national "March on DC" that is taking place on September 12th in Washington DC. March on Denver speakers will include: Jason Lewis, John Caldera, Amy Oliver and Ari Armstrong. Live entertainment will be provided by the rock band "Citizen Pain" and country singer Rich Owen. LET FREEDOM RING!

If you're elsewhere in the U.S., I bet there's a 9/12 event or rally near you. Go to Tea Party Patriots and scroll down to the list of states to access information for your area. Of course, there's the big 9.12.09 March on Washington if you're in that neighborhood, or you joined the Tea Party Express. If you can't be there (or anywhere), check the D.C. schedule and look for coverage on Fox News.

(BTW, if you're still wondering if all this tea party stuff is a real grassroots movement or astroturf, go to Tea Party Patriots and scroll down past the list of states to the list of local Tea Party Patriot Groups. OMG, there must be 500 of them!)

Labor Day Tea Party rally draws 10,000+ in Illinois

Posted by Richard on September 8, 2009

You midwestern tea partiers are putting us westerners to shame. The Tea Party Express bus tour stopped for a Labor Day rally in New Lenox / Joliet, Illinois (outside of Chicago). According to the sheriff, the crowd was over 10,000, and they had to shut down a portion of Interstate 80 for a time. Wow! Illinois Review has video.

It's only going to get more exciting on Tuesday. Joe "The Plumber" Wurzelbacher is scheduled to speak at one of the Michigan stops. Here are the details (from Levi Russell via email):

I've made another donation to the Tea Party Express to help them keep the momentum going all the way to Washington, DC, on September 12. If you'd like to help, too, go here

I can't wait until the big rally here in Denver next Saturday, Sept. 12, at the State Capitol, coinciding with the 9/12 March on Washington. I bet there's one near you, too — check the appropriate links in this post.

UPDATE (9/8): It sounds like they've had a great reception in Michigan, with thousands at each of the rallies despite off-and-on heavy rains. Check out the pictures and news videos at the tour blog's Michigan update, or just go to the home page and keep scrolling.

Manufacturing consent in Denver

Posted by Richard on August 30, 2009

Since I still haven't posted a report on Friday's rally in support of government-controlled health care and I'm feeling lazy today, I'll refer you to El Marco's excellent report and photo essay.

Especially noteworthy: The line to enter the rally site moved slowly, as staff members with clipboards required attendees to put down their name and address to be allowed in. Those who asked were told it was a security thing. Later, Rep. Ed Perlmutter thanked everyone for signing and said the names would be sent to Washington to show support for Obamacare.

The Saturday Denver Post story lived down to their usual standard (I really miss the Rocky; their reporting certainly wasn't without its problems, but at least they didn't always err on the same side). For instance, reporter Mike McPhee said this:

About 50 to 60 protesters stood off the school grounds, across West 32nd Avenue, waving banners. Their chants were drowned out by the much larger, noisier crowd.

Fail. We weren't across West 32nd. We were on the same side of the street as the high school (the rally location). Our chants weren't drowned out because we weren't chanting.

Oh, people would shout things from time to time (usually in response to something shouted our way by the l'Obamatized attendees passing by us). And then there was the Paulian woman who kept shouting "arrest the banksters!" when she wasn't trying to tell people the "troof" about 9/11. (It disturbs me that for over a decade, I lent financial support to Ron Paul and thus helped in some way to make this insane movement possible.)

McPhee's story did provide a quote from Rep. Perlmutter that, if accurate, is quite revealing regarding his understanding of the Constitution and the difference between government and private businesses:

"My daughter has epilepsy, and she's being discriminated against because of her prior condition," he told the cheering crowd. "We're not going to let her get pushed aside.

"Under the 14th Amendment, we are guaranteed equal protection. People with prior conditions are not being protected."

I shake my head in sadness and disbelief.

Health care counter-demonstration in Denver

Posted by Richard on August 26, 2009

Denver Democrats are going to demonstrate in favor of government-controlled health care at 5 PM this Friday at Tivoli Commons on the Auraria campus (900 Auraria Parkway). Zombyboy thinks it would be great for those of us who think differently to counter-demonstrate, and afterward adjourn to someplace nearby to partake of some adult beverages:

For some of y’all, you might want to show up and show your support. Me, I’d like to show up and remind folks that there are a lot of us who don’t like their ideas. Either way, it sounds like a good place and time for a little friendly shouting.

And, after, we can raise a beer to each other’s health at a near-by bar. If the Boiler Room at the Tivoli hadn’t closed, it would be the perfect place (at least, I think it’s closed–if anyone knows better, I’d be happy to hear). The default position, of course, would be Weinkoop, but I’m open to suggestion.

Let me know what y’all think, and spread the word.

Count me in. If you're in the Denver area, how about it? Add a comment over at ResurrectionSong if you have any suggestions for afterward. Or just to say you're coming. Or to say something amusing, or clever, or whatever.

UPDATE: Organizing for America (the Obamacare bus tour organizers) has made a last-minute location change to North High School, 2960 N. Speer Blvd. (Federal &  Speer), 1.75 miles north of the previous location. I suspect we'll still be at Brooklyn's (901 Auraria Pkwy.) afterward. But check the comments at ResurrectionSong for late news.
